Hollowbrook’s Agriculture Program

At The Hollowbrook School, we are increasing the awareness of healthy eating/living at an early age. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, our agriculture program is “an opportunity to increase access to healthy environments for improved early eating habits and obesity prevention in early care and education.”

Every day Hollowbrook emphasizes that a healthy mind starts with a healthy body! In Hollowbrook’s garden, students are harvesting their own delicious fruits and vegetables. Hollowbrook’s students enjoy discovering the beauty of our earth and learning how to take care of it. There is pride in Hollowbrook’s garden, and our students love having a hand in making it a beautiful place.

In Hollowbrook’s classrooms, our teachers are explaining the effects that fruits and vegetables have on their bodies so that as they grow, they have an idea of what fruit/vegetable can help aid them. We want our students to be conscious of what charges their bodies and what does not.

It takes a village to consistently uphold the importance of healthy eating at an early age, so we are inviting our Hollowbrook parents to join us in making sure that our students are eating great even once they are home. We provide healthy recipes and encourage our parents to help maintain the garden during our annual events.

Hollowbrook’s Agriculture Classrooms

  • 18 months-2 years Classroom

18 months - 2 years old students' agricultural program will include fun activities, music, and a taste test of fruits and vegetables. Students will also have daily visits to the garden where they are able to see how fruits and vegetables are grown. Our hope is that once our students graduate to the next classroom their excitement increases for fruits and vegetables!

  • 3 years-4 years old Classroom

Our 3 years -4 years old students’ Agriculture program will start in the classroom. We will teach the students how to maintain a garden and the different kinds of soil that may be needed through fun activities, music, and taste test. Once classroom time is over, the students will plant/maintain their own fruits and vegetables.

Family Garden Events!

  • Family Gardening Day!

We hope to see you at our annual Family Gardening Day! During the event, families are encouraged to garden alongside their child and learn about the plants the students are growing.

  • Family Picnic!

Join us for our annual family picnic! Families are encouraged to have a picnic in our beautiful garden. Hollowbrook will provide music, healthy recipes, and fun activities. We hope that the family picnic encourages families to continue healthy dining at home.
